Conservation and Nature Book Club: November

November 14, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Friends of Warren County Conservation will be hosting a bi-monthly book club. Simply read the suggested book and join us at the Middleswart Lodge for discussion followed by an extended activity related to the book. There is no charge for this program, but participants will need to provide their own copy of the book. Please register ahead so we can have enough materials at www.warrenccb.org/events.

For the month of November please read “The Nature of Oak, The Rich Ecology of Our Most Essential Native Trees”. Written by Douglas W. Tallamy. This book reveals what is going on in oak trees month by month, highlighting the seasonal cycles of life, death, and renewal. From woodpeckers who collect and store hundreds of acorns for sustenance to the beauty of jewel caterpillars, Tallamy illuminates and celebrates the wonders that occur right in our own backyards. He also shares practical advice about how to plant and care for an oak, along with information about the best oak species for your area. The Nature of Oaks will inspire you to treasure these trees and to act to nurture and protect them.

Previous books by Douglas W. Tallamy are “Bringing Nature Home” and “Nature’s Best Hope”.
