2023 Evening Prairie Burn

April 13 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join the Warren County Conservation Board as we light up the night sky! Learn about the valuable role fire plays in the prairie ecosystem, and why prescribed burns are used. Enjoy the beauty of watching the prairie burn against the night.
For thousands of years, wildfires kept trees out of Iowa’s tall grass prairies, releasing nutrients that fed a lush, new growth of grasses and flowers. Iowa’s native tall grass prairies and plant communities developed under fiery conditions and are part of a fire-dependent landscape. By reintroducing fire in a safe, planned manner, we recreate a process that maintains Iowa’s fertile soils in grasses and wildflowers.
This program is dependent on weather conditions. Registration is not required for this event.
