Participants will prepare recipes\, cook them in the Dutch oven\, and learn how to care for Dutch oven cookware. \nThe cost is $5 per person. Payment of cash or check to WCCB are due at least a week before the program. This program is geared towards those 12 and older and children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and registration is required by May 2\, 2024. \nThe terrain is a paved trail down to the pavilion\, along with laminate and carpet in the nature center.

This session we will go on an amphibian hike looking for and listening for the sounds of amphibians! While doing this we’ll learn about the unique characteristics of amphibians and some of the special amphibians in Iowa. \n\nAbout Homeschool Wednesdays:\nOne Wednesday each month\, we will have a specific program topic chosen. There will be different times specified for different age groups to allow learning at their level\, with their peers. The topic may be the same but have slightly different activities based on the ages present. \nOur wish is that Homeschool Wednesdays offers a chance for non-traditionally educated students to get together with other students their age to learn about a fun\, educational topic. We also hope this serves as a new outlet to socialize with other students who are also learning at home. \nWe hope you will take advantage of our trails\, shelters\, and Nature Center before and/or after your child’s age group’s program to take an exploration hike\, bring a lesson from home to a new setting\, eat lunch\, or explore the exhibits in the nature center.

Let’s decipher them together with Brad Green! \nYou may have already been utilizing Brad’s expertise if you’ve ever referenced “The Off the Cuff Weather Guy” on Facebook. Brad Green is also a meteorologist for the U.S. Air Force. During this program\, he will teach us about understanding the weather-world “lingo” as well as how meteorologists pay attention to patterns to make educated predictions of what weather is headed our way. \nThis program is family friendly\, but some terms may go over really young children’s heads. \n*Please register by March 18 so we know how many people to expect!

There is a morning and an afternoon session this year\, to try to accommodate more people\, this event is for the afternoon. \n* Each person is limited to 1 barrel. You will learn the skills to make additional barrels on your own. This ensures that we can reach as many people as possible for these classes. The trail will be illuminated only by the glow of the full moon\, creating an atmospheric ambiance that adds a touch of mystery and magic to the adventure. If the sky is cloudy it will cause the trail to be even darker! This program is tailored to cater to participants of various fitness levels and age groups. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a beginner\, we will adjust the pace and difficulty according to the group’s requirements\, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience. \nThis guided nocturnal exploration provides a unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal wildlife in action. Listen attentively and you may catch the sounds of hooting owls\, croaking frogs\, or rustling wildlife. Spotting nocturnal creatures like foxes\, deer\, or even an elusive raccoon adds an extra layer of excitement to the adventure. \nNo flashlights are required. While you can bring a flashlight if you feel absolutely necessary\, we ask that you do not turn it on unless absolutely necessary! We want to have a chance to experience our true night vision. The naturalist will have lights in case of emergency.

DESCRIPTION:Head on out to the Annett Nature Center for our Iowa Invaders Halloween Hike. This non-scary hike is educational and fun for the whole family. You will be guided along the trail to meet different characters\, including: Canada thistle\, zebra mussel\, wild parsnip\, Asian carp\, and an emerald ash borer. After the hike you can make a craft and enjoy some treats. The cost is $5 per person and those under 3 are free.\nHikes leave the nature center at 6:30\, 6:40\, 6:50\, 7:00\, 7:10\, 7:20\, and 7:30.\n**Registration and prepayment are required. Call 515-961-6169 to register.\n**Please arrive at the Annett Nature Center 5-10 minutes early to get checked in. The hikes leave the nature center at the scheduled times. In order to maintain the schedule throughout the entire night\, we will not hold hikes. If you arrive late for your scheduled time\, we will do our best to get you into the next open time\, however that may be at the end of the night. We do have a maximum number of hikers per group time to avoid overcrowding\, and to make sure everyone can hear at each stop on the trail.** \nIf you would like to volunteer to help with the Halloween Hike please contact hannahh@warrencountyia.org

Quantities are limited. All proceeds from the plant sale will benefit Warren County Conservation Board educational programming and exhibits.\n\nFriends will be at the Annett Nature Center from 8am-2pm\, but remember\, some plants are more limited and may not last until 2pm!
