Your job will be to find 10 hearts both inside and outside the nature center. You will be given clues to find each of the hearts. Each clue will be about a living thing. You will need to figure out what living thing that is and where it is. At each heart there will be one piece you will need to pick up and take with you for a craft. Are you up for the challenge? This program is great for the whole family\, the targeted age range will be 7 to 10-year-olds. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nDue to the weather forecast for this weekend\, we will be canceling the Hidden Heart Hunt.

The trail will be illuminated only by the glow of the full moon\, creating an atmospheric ambiance that adds a touch of mystery and magic to the adventure. If the sky is cloudy it will cause the trail to be even darker! This program is tailored to cater to participants of various fitness levels and age groups. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a beginner\, we will adjust the pace and difficulty according to the group’s requirements\, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience.\n\nThis guided nocturnal exploration provides a unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal wildlife in action. Listen attentively and you may catch the sounds of hooting owls\, or rustling wildlife. Spotting nocturnal creatures like foxes\, deer\, or even an elusive raccoon adds an extra layer of excitement to the adventure.\n\nNo flashlights are required. While you can bring a flashlight if you feel you really need it\, we ask that you do not turn it on unless absolutely necessary! We want to have a chance to experience our true night vision. The naturalist will have lights in case of emergency.\n\nSpace is limited. Registration opens October 14th.

To continue this excellence\, we also depend on invaluable support and collaboration with partners and the public. This anniversary event will be an opportunity to meet our staff\, learn about our shared accomplishments\, showcase the work we do\, and highlight the importance of continuing our conservation legacy into the future. \nThe ANC will be open to the public to explore and visit with WCCB staff. Our staff will have display booths for education\, administration\, and field operations. Food trucks will be staged outside for all attendees to buy food from. Fiscal Year 2025 is halfway through\, but there is new focus on what we have recently accomplished and what is on the horizon. DESCRIPTION:Join Warren County Conservation for a Twister of a Halloween Hike! This is years theme is all about severe weather! Trek down the jack o’ lantern lit trail and meet some interesting weather phenomenon\, including a tornado\, thunder storm\, blizzard\, hail\, and floods.\n\nAfterwards\, you can enjoy a craft and a snack in the nature center. After the hike you can make a craft and enjoy some treats. The cost is $5 per person and those under 3 are free.\n**Registration is required. Contact 515-961-6169 to register and ask for Hannah or Kelsey**\n\nHikes leave the nature center at 6:30\, 6:40\, 6:50\, 7:00\, 7:10\, 7:20\, and 7:30.\n**Registration and prepayment are required. Call 515-961-6169 to register.\n\n**Please arrive at the Annett Nature Center 5-10 minutes early to get checked in. The hikes leave the nature center at the scheduled times. In order to maintain the schedule throughout the entire night\, we will not hold hikes. If you arrive late for your scheduled time\, we will do our best to get you into the next open time\, however that may be at the end of the night. We do have a maximum number of hikers per group time to avoid overcrowding\, and to make sure everyone can hear at each stop on the trail.**

SUMMARY:FWCC Prairie Picnic Annual Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Warren County Conservation is a nonprofit\, volunteer group. They provide fundraising and volunteerism to support the educational programs as well as outreach of the Warren County Conservation Board. This enables thousands of Warren County residents and visitors to enjoy conservation education in addition to quality outdoor experiences year round. They hold monthly public meetings. Anyone interested can make a donation to become a member of FWCC.  \nFriends of Warren County Conservation would like to invite you to our annual prairie picnic fundraiser to support environmental education programming. This year’s event includes an evening on the prairie with live music by Ryne Doughty. There will be delicious appetizers\, a meal catered by Whip It Good\, complete with desserts\, and a live & silent auction. The cost is $30 per person. Seating is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a thrilling hands-on experience where kids can explore ancient skills through our Tomahawk and Atlatl Adventure! Participants will learn a brief history of each tool\, the art of tomahawk throwing and the science of using an atlatl\, a prehistoric spear-throwing tool. Participants will discover the history and techniques behind these traditional skills while practicing safety and precision. \nRegistration will open 1 month prior to the event (August 11th.) Please register by September 9th.\nSpace & throwing time is limited. Closed-toed shoes are required to throw. \nThis program is for kids 9 and up.

DESCRIPTION:Join us out on the water for a canoe program on Lester Pond. Our naturalist will provide instruction on how to handle a canoe to avoid damaging it\, how to get in and out of a canoe safely\, how to paddle effectively\, and how to navigate in the canoe with other people. This class will teach about boat safety\, and offer the opportunity to explore the pond. \nNo experience necessary\, we’ll teach you everything you need to know! Lifejackets are required and provided. We will put up to 3 people in each canoe. Meet at the Annett Nature Center. \nPlease register for the number of people in your group\, we can fit 3 people in each canoe. DESCRIPTION:Spend some time out in the park with a naturalist looking and listening for different birds that you might find in Iowa! We will have 3 options for classes this day. \n9-10am: Bird Lesson with Hike\n8 Year Olds and under (Best suited for 5-8 year olds)\nLearn the basics of what makes a bird a bird\, learn how to identify birds\, explore around the nature center looking for birds\, and do a birdy craft! \n9-10am: Birding Hike\n9 Year Olds and up. \nLearn what features to recognize to be able to properly identify birds and use those skills on a birding hike! \n10-11am: Owl Program\nAll Ages welcome! \nLearn about a special type of bird\, an owl! Learn what makes an owl unique and get a chance to meet a real owl! \n  \nPlease register for each child attending the session. Register by Monday\, August 19th. \n

Participants will be taught proper shooting techniques\, safety protocols\, and equipment handling. Our experienced certified instructors will provide guidance and support as beginners develop their skills and confidence. This program is a great way to explore the exciting sport of archery in a fun and welcoming environment. \nClose-toed shoes are required to shoot archery and if you have long hair\, we recommend pulling it back for this activity. \nThis program is for ages 10-15.

If so\, this is the event for you. This workshop provides a comfortable environment to try new outdoor activities\, engage in hands-on workshops\, interactive sessions\, and guided activities led by experienced instructors.  You can campout and socialize Friday night\, then attend general and breakout sessions on Saturday. (In addition to learning and hands on experiences\, Wild Outdoor Women emphasizes the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants. Social gatherings\, group discussions\, and networking opportunities allow women to connect\, share experiences\, and build lasting friendships while breaking barriers and shattering stereotypes.) \nSession Information?\nThis year you can choose from sessions including: Fire Starting\, Night Hike\, Intro to Backpacking\, High Ropes\, Macrame\, Building and Protecting Ecosystems\, Wild Edibles Part 1\, Wild Edibles Part 2\, Backyard Birdfeeders\, Native American Celebration and Storytelling\, Power Tools – DIY Tray Feeder\, and Weather Preparedness. \nWho Can Attend?\nWomen 12 & older are invited to participate in this event.
