Come discover the fun and excitement of geocaching\, the high-tech outdoor scavenger hunt that uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) unit!\nJoin a Warren County Conservation Board Naturalist for a beginner course to learn about geocaching and how to use the Geocaching app on your phone. Then head out in the park to find “treasures” called caches. Fun for the whole family! After this session\, you will be prepared to head out on your own and find the Geocaching Macroinvertebrate Adventure caches hidden in Warren County Parks. This activity is free\, but please register by Thursday\, April 30th. Children must be accompanied by an adult.\nIt is a good idea to create an account on the geocaching app or on geocaching.com prior to the event. DESCRIPTION:*PROGRAM UPDATE*\nThe weather is still deciding what it wants to do. We may have the evening burn tomorrow night (Wednesday 4/23 at 7:30pm at the Annett Nature Center) but we aren’t sure about conditions just yet. We will post a final update tomorrow at noon!\n\n\n*POP UP PROGRAM ALERT!*\n\n\n \n\n\n🔥 We are going to be having an evening prairie burn at the Annett Nature Center\, and we want you to come experience the night glow with us!\n\n\nWarren County Conservation staff will use prescribed fire techniques to burn the old and weedy\, and open the ground for prairie rebirth. We will discuss the many ways that prescribed burns help maintain the health of the prairie. \n\n\n \n\n\n‼️ The conditions must be right in order to hold the prairie burn. We don’t have an exact date yet but we are planning either Wednesday\, April 23rd or Thursday\, April 24th. Since weather and conditions can change a lot between now and then\, we will put out a confirmed date by the Tuesday evening. DESCRIPTION:Embark on a guided hike under the enchanting glow of the moon\, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature. This program is designed to provide a memorable and educational outdoor experience\, blending tranquility\, adventure\, and history!\n\nAs the sun sinks further behind the horizon\, a naturalist will lead you through carefully chosen trails\, ensuring your safety while experiencing the natural world in a whole new (lack of) light. The trail will be illuminated only by the glow of the full moon\, creating an atmospheric ambiance that adds a touch of mystery and magic to the adventure. If the sky is cloudy it will cause the trail to be even darker! This program is tailored to cater to participants of various fitness levels and age groups. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a beginner\, we will adjust the pace and difficulty according to the group’s requirements\, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience.\n\nThis guided nocturnal exploration provides a unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal wildlife in action. Listen attentively and you may catch the sounds of hooting owls\, or rustling wildlife. Spotting nocturnal creatures like foxes\, deer\, or even an elusive raccoon adds an extra layer of excitement to the adventure.\n\nNo flashlights are required. While you can bring a flashlight if you feel you really need it\, we ask that you do not turn it on unless absolutely necessary! We want to have a chance to experience our true night vision. The naturalist will have lights in case of emergency.\n\nSpace is limited. Registration opens October 14th.

DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the Warren County Conservation Board\, we are happy to invite you to join the WCCB and staff to celebrate our 50th anniversary! This milestone marks half a century of dedicated service to preserving Warren County’s natural resources\, enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities\, and fostering environmental education in our local community. \nTo honor this significant achievement\, we are hosting a special anniversary celebration: \n\nDate: November 14th\, 2024\nTime: 5:00-7:00pm\nLocation: Annett Nature Center\, 15565 118th Avenue\, Indianola\, Iowa\, 50125\n\nOver the past 50 years\, our department’s services have brought great value to our local communities. To continue this excellence\, we also depend on invaluable support and collaboration with partners and the public. This anniversary event will be an opportunity to meet our staff\, learn about our shared accomplishments\, showcase the work we do\, and highlight the importance of continuing our conservation legacy into the future. \nThe ANC will be open to the public to explore and visit with WCCB staff. Our staff will have display booths for education\, administration\, and field operations. Food trucks will be staged outside for all attendees to buy food from. Fiscal Year 2025 is halfway through\, but there is new focus on what we have recently accomplished and what is on the horizon. Please stop by – we would love to hear about your memories and experiences while exploring Warren County Conservation areas or programs! \nOur team hopes that you can join us in commemorating this important milestone and in celebrating all that we have achieved together\, as a community\, for our community. \nThank you for your continued participation and commitment to conservation with a positive land ethic. \nI hope you have a great fall season. SUMMARY:2024 Twister Annual Halloween Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join Warren County Conservation for a Twister of a Halloween Hike! This is years theme is all about severe weather! Trek down the jack o’ lantern lit trail and meet some interesting weather phenomenon\, including a tornado\, thunder storm\, blizzard\, hail\, and floods.\n\nAfterwards\, you can enjoy a craft and a snack in the nature center. After the hike you can make a craft and enjoy some treats. The cost is $5 per person and those under 3 are free.\n**Registration is required. Contact 515-961-6169 to register and ask for Hannah or Kelsey**\n\nHikes leave the nature center at 6:30\, 6:40\, 6:50\, 7:00\, 7:10\, 7:20\, and 7:30.\n**Registration and prepayment are required. Call 515-961-6169 to register.\n\n**Please arrive at the Annett Nature Center 5-10 minutes early to get checked in. The hikes leave the nature center at the scheduled times. In order to maintain the schedule throughout the entire night\, we will not hold hikes. If you arrive late for your scheduled time\, we will do our best to get you into the next open time\, however that may be at the end of the night. We do have a maximum number of hikers per group time to avoid overcrowding\, and to make sure everyone can hear at each stop on the trail.**

SUMMARY:FWCC Prairie Picnic Annual Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Warren County Conservation is a nonprofit\, volunteer group. They provide fundraising and volunteerism to support the educational programs as well as outreach of the Warren County Conservation Board. This enables thousands of Warren County residents and visitors to enjoy conservation education in addition to quality outdoor experiences year round. They hold monthly public meetings. Anyone interested can make a donation to become a member of FWCC.  \nFriends of Warren County Conservation would like to invite you to our annual prairie picnic fundraiser to support environmental education programming. This year’s event includes an evening on the prairie with live music by Ryne Doughty. There will be delicious appetizers\, a meal catered by Whip It Good\, complete with desserts\, and a live & silent auction. The cost is $30 per person. Seating is limited.
