Then head out in the park to find “treasures” called caches. Fun for the whole family! After this session you will be prepared to head out on your own and find the Geocaching Mineral Adventure caches hidden in Warren County Parks. This activity is free but please register by Tuesday\, April 4th. DESCRIPTION:What is the Geocaching Adventure?There are 25 Geocaching Adventure Caches hidden in county\, state and city parks around Warren County. Your challenge is to explore parks and find them all using a GPS. Each cache includes an instruction card\, a logbook\, and a stack of themed trading cards. Sign the logbook to show that you found the cache and take a trading card for your collection.\nAfter finding all 25 caches\, take your 25 trading cards to the Annett Nature Center. We will give you the coordinates to find the last cache challenge. Take a picture of yourself with the very last card or all of your trading cards. Feel free to include family\, friends\, your dog or anyone else that helped you finish the challenge. All participants who successfully finish the challenge by November 1\, 2025 will receive a finisher’s token and your photo will be posted on our Facebook page as Geocaching Adventure Finisher. You will need to figure out what living thing that is and where it is. At each heart there will be one piece you will need to pick up and take with you for a craft. Are you up for the challenge? This program is great for the whole family\, the targeted age range will be 7 to 10-year-olds. DESCRIPTION:Embark on a guided hike under the enchanting glow of the moon\, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature. This program is designed to provide a memorable and educational outdoor experience\, blending tranquility\, adventure\, and history!\n\nAs the sun sinks further behind the horizon\, a naturalist will lead you through carefully chosen trails\, ensuring your safety while experiencing the natural world in a whole new (lack of) light. The trail will be illuminated only by the glow of the full moon\, creating an atmospheric ambiance that adds a touch of mystery and magic to the adventure. If the sky is cloudy it will cause the trail to be even darker! This program is tailored to cater to participants of various fitness levels and age groups. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a beginner\, we will adjust the pace and difficulty according to the group’s requirements\, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience.\n\nThis guided nocturnal exploration provides a unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal wildlife in action. Listen attentively and you may catch the sounds of hooting owls\, or rustling wildlife. Spotting nocturnal creatures like foxes\, deer\, or even an elusive raccoon adds an extra layer of excitement to the adventure.\n\nNo flashlights are required. While you can bring a flashlight if you feel you really need it\, we ask that you do not turn it on unless absolutely necessary! We want to have a chance to experience our true night vision. The naturalist will have lights in case of emergency.\n\nSpace is limited. Registration opens October 14th.

This milestone marks half a century of dedicated service to preserving Warren County’s natural resources\, enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities\, and fostering environmental education in our local community. \nTo honor this significant achievement\, we are hosting a special anniversary celebration: \n\nDate: November 14th\, 2024\nTime: 5:00-7:00pm\nLocation: Annett Nature Center\, 15565 118th Avenue\, Indianola\, Iowa\, 50125\n\nOver the past 50 years\, our department’s services have brought great value to our local communities. To continue this excellence\, we also depend on invaluable support and collaboration with partners and the public. This anniversary event will be an opportunity to meet our staff\, learn about our shared accomplishments\, showcase the work we do\, and highlight the importance of continuing our conservation legacy into the future. \nThe ANC will be open to the public to explore and visit with WCCB staff. Our staff will have display booths for education\, administration\, and field operations. Food trucks will be staged outside for all attendees to buy food from. Fiscal Year 2025 is halfway through\, but there is new focus on what we have recently accomplished and what is on the horizon. SUMMARY:2024 Twister Annual Halloween Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join Warren County Conservation for a Twister of a Halloween Hike! This is years theme is all about severe weather! Trek down the jack o’ lantern lit trail and meet some interesting weather phenomenon\, including a tornado\, thunder storm\, blizzard\, hail\, and floods.\n\nAfterwards\, you can enjoy a craft and a snack in the nature center. After the hike you can make a craft and enjoy some treats. The cost is $5 per person and those under 3 are free.\n**Registration is required. Contact 515-961-6169 to register and ask for Hannah or Kelsey**\n\nHikes leave the nature center at 6:30\, 6:40\, 6:50\, 7:00\, 7:10\, 7:20\, and 7:30.\n**Registration and prepayment are required. Call 515-961-6169 to register.\n\n**Please arrive at the Annett Nature Center 5-10 minutes early to get checked in. The hikes leave the nature center at the scheduled times. In order to maintain the schedule throughout the entire night\, we will not hold hikes. If you arrive late for your scheduled time\, we will do our best to get you into the next open time\, however that may be at the end of the night. We do have a maximum number of hikers per group time to avoid overcrowding\, and to make sure everyone can hear at each stop on the trail.**
