Discover the parks in the evening or your back yard and see if you can identify a mineral.\nAfter finding all 25 caches\, take your 25 trading cards to the Annett Nature Center. We will give you the coordinates to find the last cache challenge. Take a picture of yourself with the very last card or all of your trading cards. Feel free to include family\, friends\, your dog or anyone else that helped you finish the challenge. SUMMARY:2023 Annual Halloween Hike
DESCRIPTION:Head on out to the Annett Nature Center for our Iowa Invaders Halloween Hike. This non-scary hike is educational and fun for the whole family. You will be guided along the trail to meet different characters\, including: Canada thistle\, zebra mussel\, wild parsnip\, Asian carp\, and an emerald ash borer. After the hike you can make a craft and enjoy some treats. The cost is $5 per person and those under 3 are free.\nHikes leave the nature center at 6:30\, 6:40\, 6:50\, 7:00\, 7:10\, 7:20\, and 7:30.\n**Registration and prepayment are required. Call 515-961-6169 to register.\n**Please arrive at the Annett Nature Center 5-10 minutes early to get checked in. The hikes leave the nature center at the scheduled times. In order to maintain the schedule throughout the entire night\, we will not hold hikes. If you arrive late for your scheduled time\, we will do our best to get you into the next open time\, however that may be at the end of the night. We do have a maximum number of hikers per group time to avoid overcrowding\, and to make sure everyone can hear at each stop on the trail.** \nIf you would like to volunteer to help with the Halloween Hike please contact hannahh@warrencountyia.org

Please register ahead so we can have enough materials at www.warrenccb.org/events.\nFor the month of September please read “Bicycling with Butterflies”. Written by Sara Dykman. Sara is an outdoor educator and field researcher\, who achieved a remarkable feat when she became the first person to accompany monarch butterflies on their annual migration\, covering a distance of over 10\,000 miles across three countries. What made her journey even more extraordinary was that she completed it solo and on a bicycle she constructed using secondhand components.

Bring a friend or come by yourself to slowdown\, unplug\, and get in touch with your senses. \nWhat is Forest Therapy?\nWarren County Conservation offers nature & forest therapy guided walks throughout the year at various locations. We invite you to unplug\, slow down\, and experience mindfulness in nature. These gentle three-hour walks will focus on using all your senses to explore nature. Shinrin-yoku or forest therapy can provide many positive health benefits such as lowered blood pressure\, decreased anxiety\, increased focus\, relaxation\, and a connection with nature. Staff is certified with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Association.

His book blends a personal memoir\, a history of Iowa land conservation\, contemporary issues of water quality\, public lands\, and future challenges to tell the story of how land shapes our lives right here in Iowa.\n\nFriends of Warren County Conservation will be hosting an informal reception and serving light refreshments after the discussion. DESCRIPTION:What is the Geocaching Mineral Adventure?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere are 25 Geocaching Adventure Caches hidden in county\, state and city parks around Warren County. Your challenge is to explore parks and find them all using a GPS. Each cache includes an instruction card\, a logbook\, and a stack of themed trading cards. Sign the logbook to show that you found the cache and take a trading card for your collection. Discover the parks in the evening or your back yard and see if you can identify a mineral.\nAfter finding all 25 caches\, take your 25 trading cards to the Annett Nature Center. We will give you the coordinates to find the last cache challenge. Take a picture of yourself with the very last card or all of your trading cards. Feel free to include family\, friends\, your dog or anyone else that helped you finish the challenge. All participants who successfully finish the challenge by November 1\, 2023 will receive a finisher’s token and your photo will be posted on our Facebook page as Geocaching Adventure Finisher. \nDon’t know where to start?\n\n\nWe welcome you to stop in at the Annett Nature Center to learn more about geocaching. Staff can provide helpful tips and info about geocaching during our business hours. It’s best to give us a call at 515-961-6169 first before stopping out.

DESCRIPTION:Get out on the water and give stand up paddleboarding a try. A WCCB naturalist will go over the basic equipment\, paddle strokes\, and get you paddling around at various areas. No experience necessary! An adult must accompany children and children must be at least 10 years old. Space is limited to 10 participants and registration is required. \n  \nThere is a $5 program fee for equipment. Fee will be due June 19th. The fishing competition will take place at Lester Pond. There will be awards\, door prizes\, and a free fish-cleaning demonstration. Bring your own pole or borrow one of ours. Bait will be provided. You will also be able to try fish bites cooked by the Izaak Walton League. *Fish will be fried in peanut oil.\nIt’s FREE — join us. Spruce up your landscaping with some native plants that the pollinators will love.\n\nA few favorites are include a variety of milkweeds\, purple coneflower\, White Indigo\, Cardinal flower\, New England Aster\, Goldenrod\, Blazing Star\, Columbine\, Obedient plant\, and many more. Quantities are limited. All proceeds from the plant sale will benefit Warren County Conservation Board educational programming and exhibits.\n\nFriends will be at the Annett Nature Center from 8am-2pm\, but remember\, some plants are more limited and may not last until 2pm!
