SUMMARY:Geocaching Fungi Adventure
DESCRIPTION:What is the Geocaching Adventure?\nThere are 25 Geocaching Adventure Caches hidden in county\, state and city parks around Warren County. Your challenge is to explore parks and find them all using a GPS. Each cache includes an instruction card\, a logbook\, and a stack of themed trading cards. Sign the logbook to show that you found the cache and take a trading card for your collection. Discover the parks in the evening or your back yard and see if you can identify a fungi. \nAfter finding all 25 caches\, take your 25 trading cards to the Annett Nature Center. We will give you the coordinates to find the last cache challenge. Take a picture of yourself with the very last card or all of your trading cards. Feel free to include family\, friends\, your dog or anyone else that helped you finish the challenge. All participants who successfully finish the challenge by November 1\, 2024 will receive a finisher’s token and your photo will be posted on our Facebook page as Geocaching Adventure Finisher. The 25 caches can be found by searching for “WC Fungi Adventure” ( You can also download coordinates straight to you GPS from here or use the Geocaching app on your smartphone to find them) \nCheck back to our website on April 1st\, 2024 at 8am to download the general map and coordinates: https://www.warrenccb.org/activities/geocaching/geocaching/ \nOr open up your Geocaching.com App on April 1st starting at 8am to start caching!\nCreate a free account at: https://www.geocaching.com/play

SUMMARY:Conservation and Nature Book Club: March
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Warren County Conservation will be hosting a bi-monthly book club. Simply read the suggested book and join us at the Middleswart Lodge for a book discussion followed by an extended activity related each months book choice. There is no charge for this program\, but participants will need to provide their own copy of the book. Please register ahead so we can have enough materials at www.warrenccb.org/events. \nFor the month of March please read “American Wolf ” A True Story of Survival and Obsession in the West\, by Nate Blakeslee. “Before men ruled the earth\, there were wolves. Once abundant in North America\, these majestic creatures were hunted to near extinction in the lower 48 states by the 1920s. But in recent decades\, conservationists have brought wolves back to the Rockies\, igniting a battle over the very soul of the West. \nWith novelistic detail\, Nate Blakeslee tells the gripping story of one of these wolves\, O-Six\, a charismatic alpha female named for the year of her birth. Uncommonly powerful\, with gray fur and faint black ovals around each eye\, O-Six is a kind and merciful leader\, a fiercely intelligent fighter\, and a doting mother. She is beloved by wolf watchers\, particularly renowned naturalist Rick McIntyre\, and becomes something of a social media star\, with followers around the world. \nBut as she raises her pups and protects her pack\, O-Six is challenged on all fronts: by hunters\, who compete with wolves for the elk they both prize; by cattle ranchers who are losing livestock and have the ear of politicians; and by other Yellowstone wolves who are vying for control of the park’s stunningly beautiful Lamar Valley. These forces collide in American Wolf\, a riveting multigenerational saga of hardship and triumph that tells a larger story about the ongoing cultural clash in the West—between those fighting for a vanishing way of life and those committed to restoring one of the country’s most iconic landscapes.”- Penguin Random House

SUMMARY:Weather 101
DESCRIPTION:Weather patterns\, forecasts\, severe weather\, how can you understand all of it to make good plans for your day or week? Some of the terms used with meteorology can be confusing! Let’s decipher them together with Brad Green! \nYou may have already been utilizing Brad’s expertise if you’ve ever referenced “The Off the Cuff Weather Guy” on Facebook. Brad Green is also a meteorologist for the U.S. Air Force. During this program\, he will teach us about understanding the weather-world “lingo” as well as how meteorologists pay attention to patterns to make educated predictions of what weather is headed our way. \nThis program is family friendly\, but some terms may go over really young children’s heads. \n*Please register by March 18 so we know how many people to expect!

SUMMARY:*FULL* Marsupial Madness: Meeting Marsi
DESCRIPTION:Come learn all about what it means to be a marsupial! Marsupial Madness is an interactive and educational program designed to introduce participants to the fascinating world of marsupials\, with a special focus on opossums\, North America’s only marsupial! \nThe program will begin with a brief lesson that covers essential marsupial facts\, including how marsupials differ from placental mammals\, the phenomenon of marsupial pouches\, and the wide variety of marsupial species around the world. \nFollowing the lesson\, the program offers an opportunity to meet a real-life opossum\, our very own animal ambassador: Marsi! Learn why we have Marsi (who is non-releasable)\, and how we can help other wildlife stay in the wild where they are happiest! *Keep in mind that this will be one of Marsi’s first programs and she is still getting used to people. Animals have their own feelings (shy\, nervous\, interested\, scared) that we cannot control but should respect and Marsi may have her own ideas of how to interact at the program! 😉 \nThis program is free\, but please register by February 12th at noon with the total number of people in your party that will be attending so that we know how many people to plan for! \nWatch the video to see Marsi on an adventure when finding out her name!

SUMMARY:Registration is closed – Full Moon Hike
DESCRIPTION:Embark on a guided hike under the enchanting glow of the full moon\, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature. This program is designed to provide a memorable and educational outdoor experience\, blending tranquility\, adventure\, and history! \nAs the sun sinks further behind the horizon\, a naturalist will lead you through carefully chosen trails\, ensuring your safety while experiencing the natural world in a whole new (lack of) light. The trail will be illuminated only by the glow of the full moon\, creating an atmospheric ambiance that adds a touch of mystery and magic to the adventure. If the sky is cloudy it will cause the trail to be even darker! This program is tailored to cater to participants of various fitness levels and age groups. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a beginner\, we will adjust the pace and difficulty according to the group’s requirements\, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience. \nThis guided nocturnal exploration provides a unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal wildlife in action. Listen attentively and you may catch the sounds of hooting owls\, croaking frogs\, or rustling wildlife. Spotting nocturnal creatures like foxes\, deer\, or even an elusive raccoon adds an extra layer of excitement to the adventure. \nNo flashlights are required. While you can bring a flashlight if you feel absolutely necessary\, we ask that you do not turn it on unless absolutely necessary! We want to have a chance to experience our true night vision. The naturalist will have lights in case of emergency.
