Halloween Hike 2007:
Nature’s Superheros
On the evening of October 22, 2007, a group of hikers at the Annett Nature Center braved the dark to be entertained and learn about Nature’s Superheros, insects that can do some amazing things. Here is a look at the night’s fun:
The House Fly - Kathy Krogmeier - has amazing, super-powered, compound eyes.
The Lightning Bug - Jorden Priebe - has powerful camoflauge and can create no-heat, chemical light.
The Ant - Michael Dorgan - is fiercly loyal to his colony and has super strength.
The Stink Bug - Janet Sinclair - destroys garden pests and defends itself with super (bad) smell.
The Luna Moth - Barb Ripperger - has super-sensitive antennae.
After visiting the Luna Moth, hikers returned to the Annett Nature Center for crafts, cookies and apple juice.
Kaitlyn Caffrey, Renee Ripperger, Joel Van Roekel (WCCB Naturalist) and Janet Pine wait for the next group of Hikers.
Tauri Cooney serves treats to hungry hike survivors.
Sami Benson (center) and Kelsey Freeman (right) facepaint anyone whe will sit still.
Jenelle Wood and Taylor Acott work on semi-scary Halloween crafts with returning hikers.
