In 1955, the State of Iowa enacted a law permitting counties to establish county conservation boards. On November 5, 1974, Warren County citizens voted to create the Warren County Conservation Board. The Board’s purpose is to encourage a state of harmony between people and the land communities upon which our lives and welfare depend, through programs of conservation, preservation and education.

Five Warren County citizens constitute the Conservation Board. They are appointed by the Warren County Board of Supervisors to five year terms, with one term expiring December 31 of each year. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the Annett Nature Center and are open to the public.

The county conservation program is supported by the taxpayers of Warren County. Budgets proposals are submitted by the Conservation Board and finalized by the Board of Supervisors. Budgets are supplemented by state and federal grants and donations and gifts from private sources.

The Warren County Conservation Board currently manages over 1,200 acres of land for the benefit of its citizens. Visitors can find areas to fish, hunt, cross-country ski, picnic, camp, learn and much more on areas being conserved for this generation and generations to come.
